On December 1, 2024, CHN Energy’s Longyuan Power Liaoning Branch announced that all 16 of its wind farms have officially adopted an unmanned operation mode, marking a significant advancement into a new era of intelligent management for wind farm operations.

Across Liaoning Province, more than 900 wind turbines belonging to the company stand majestically among the mountains and plains, generating power at full capacity against the northern winds. The central control rooms of these wind farms are now unstaffed, with only monitoring screens displaying various data and graphs that show real-time operational status and alarm information for the turbines. This information is promptly sent to maintenance personnel via the company's operational control center, ensuring continuous safe and stable equipment operation.

The implementation of the unmanned model signifies a transition from manual supervision to minimal or no personnel oversight, representing a crucial step in enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs and improving market competitiveness. Wind farms that previously required 24-hour human monitoring are now utilizing advanced remote monitoring technology and data analysis systems to achieve round-the-clock, high-precision oversight of wind turbine operations.

Under the unmanned model, the management of wind farm operations has become more efficient and intelligent. The role of maintenance personnel is also changing; the control center can monitor equipment status in real time. If any abnormalities occur, staff at the control center immediately receive fault alerts or warnings, allowing them to quickly identify the source of the issue and notify the wind farm for prompt action.

With the ongoing implementation of the "one region, one centralized control" strategy, the intelligent management system characterized by zonal monitoring, unified scheduling, data sharing and real-time tracking is becoming increasingly sophisticated. The real-time status and operational data of all wind farms are rapidly integrated into a unified system, creating a centralized "brain" that effectively enhances the precision of equipment maintenance management.

Data analysis and intelligent technology are emerging as key trends in wind farm operations management and are essential directions for the future of the wind energy industry. Through the intelligent operation control system, wind farms can achieve automated alerts and predictions, further improving the quality and effectiveness of maintenance management.

With the comprehensive deployment of intelligent systems, wind farm operators have fully transitioned from the control room, dedicating themselves to meticulous maintenance work at the wind farms. This shift injects continuous vitality and assurance into safe production. The transformation not only enhances the power generation efficiency of the wind farms and reduces maintenance costs, but also extends the lifespan of the wind turbines, resulting in multiple benefits.
